I was making cookies tonight for a family thing. I borrowed a couple ingredients from my AWESOME neighbors. I was thinking of giving some to them, well because they loan me stuff. We were also going to take some to my Mom when we went to visit tomorrow, so I decided to double the recipe...BIG MISTAKE! It made 90 cookies. Thankfully it didn't take to long to bake. I guess for the benefit of the other neighbors they get cookies.
I do love my new found love of baking.

Names
Today Peter's Sister and Brother-in-Law took Melly to Activity day at Lowe's (Uncle Matt works there in the lumber department). I don't know the whole story, but at some point Katie (sister-in-law) and Melynn had the following conversation ensued:
Katie: "Is Uncle Matt Handsome?"
Melly: "No, JOHANSEN!"
Katie: "Oh, Is that your name?"
Melly: "No, Melly Name!"
I later asked her to say "Melynn Johansen, Mommy Johansen, Alex Johansen" or any name with the Last name Johansen. Her answer everytime was "NO". I think she knows that it's a name, but she just doesn't understand how.
I only mentioned her last name to her one time a couple weeks ago. I can't believe she remembered it from that long ago. And just because HANDSOME somehow to her like JOHANSEN. My super cute, smart little girl.

I'm a Princess!
Yesterday Melynn hauled over her little pink stool and placed in on a box (Peter's senior project/robot box), a few minutes later she comes back with a pair of my heels(two different heels of different heights) on. She climbed onto the box and then the stool. She threw her arms in the air and proclaims "I'm a PRINCESS, Mommy!". What do you say to that other than "You sure are Melly. Now hop down before you get hurt. I love you!". "I La You, Mommy!" and she climbed down and went off to find something else to play.
It's times like this that reassure me that this is right where I want to be in life.
UPDATE:
We are now in the third day of potty training. Wish us luck. Any advice would be great!

My Sweet Little Chatter Box
Many of you don't know that Peter's work is only about 7-8 minutes or 5 miles from our soon to be home. On Wednesday we did the inspection on our house (only a couple of fixes and we should be good to go). It was past our usual dinner time so we decided to stop and pick something up and eat at Peter's work. For the 4-5 minutes we were in the car after picking up dinner Melynn speed talked the whole time and at least 3 of those minutes she talked about Backyardigans. I don't think I've laughed so hard. I love her so much.
When we pulled up to our house for the inspection, Melynn very excitedly says "I found the house, Mommy. I found it.", my response was "You sure did, Melly.". I'm pretty sure see remembers seeing it before. When she first saw the house I asked her which room she wanted and she ran to one of the rooms and said "this one". She is too cute.
For awhile we were thinking about making an offer on a house here in Spanish Fork. So we would ask her (we still ask her) "Do you want to live in Spanish Fork or Pleasant Grove?" and with out fail every time her answer is "sanish spork". She definitely has her mind made up.
All in all I think I have the cutest little girl.

Firsts
Yesterday was a very big day for my now one year old baby.
First we had Alex's 12 month check-up and immunizations....I know, I know I'm a really mean Mom to have him get immunizations on his birthday. It's the only time that we could do it. Our life has been really crazy with buying a house. Anyway he did really great and the doctor said he looks great. He is now one and his measurements are:
22 lbs 4 oz in the 50 %
Oversized head comes in at the 75%
He is definately a fighter. He fought tooth and nail to get away from getting the shots and when they pricked his finger to do the hemoglobin test and all the while crying for "da-da". Daddy is his protector.
Second I decided to take Alex to get a hair cut. I couldn't handle the hair in his eyes and it was so long at the nape of his neck that it was starting to curl. I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of grief from people. I do agree he looked cute before, but he looks so handsome now. Take a look for yourself.
Last but not least we bought stuff for Melynn and I to make Alex a cake. She is such a great little helper. She sat by the oven and watched it cook. She was so excited to give it to Grubs. Here are a few pics and videos of the cake eating event. I feel kind of bad, my sweet little Melly got a bit jealous from the lack of attention. She wanted so badly to get her picture taken eating cake. I think that I will give her some cake and take pictures of it. Anyway enjoy.
The jealousy coming out. Yeah cake batter all over her cute face. I love Alex peaking out from above.

Old Spice Commercial
It's one of those commercials that you watch all the way through and when it's over you can't help but say "WHAT?" and then you laugh because it was just random enough to be funny. Click HERE and see what I mean.

What I've been up to Lately
Here are a few things I've been doing lately. There is one other item that I have been working on, but everyone has to wait to see it, because it is for a friend of mine and she asked not to know any details about it. For the select few that know what it is...SHHH!
My first crack at Banana Bread. It was so yummy. however I did learn that you should not open the oven and that Melynn could eat "Nana Cake" for every meal, as long as it has butter.Proof that I really did bake the best cookies in the world. Click Here for recipe.
Head band and washcloths and a potholder I made for my sister-in-law/brother-in-law as a wedding gift. I know lame, huh.
Head band I made for my beautiful Niece, Sophie.
I wanted to learn to make a hat for a baby. Well I found out that it wouldn't fit Alex (Big SHOCKER right?!). Pretty much every other child that's almost one has a smaller head than Alex so I decided to make it for my friends baby, Gwen (she's six weeks younger than Alex.) And what hat doesn't look better with a flower. Anyway it turned out looking better than I thought it would and it looks stinking cute on Little Gwenie. Melynn wants one really bad, but I've been having trouble getting her head size right.
Also if anyone is interested in any of these items I will hopefully be selling them online. When that happens I will let you know the prices and any other details. Or you can email me and we can work out some sort of deal. If you don't have my email or I don't have yours, leave a comment with your email (I'll delete it after) and send you an email. Hope you enjoyed my little projects.
One last thing If I've made something for you post a pic on your blog (if you have one) to spread the word.

Hair Cut Evidence
Look at all that crazy hair. This is why I asked Peter if he thought Alex needed a hair cut. What a cutie. I love it!

The BEST Cookies You'll Ever Taste, EVER!
This is the best cookie recipe I think I have ever had. It's so easy to make and I had everything but the peanut butter cups in my cupboard. I think it took me about 30 minutes to make from start to finish and it makes about 40. Thanks Jenalee for introducing me. Enjoy!
Peanut Butter Cup Cookies
Ingredients:
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons milk
40 miniature chocolate covered
Directions:
| 1. | Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). |
| 2. | Sift together the flour, salt and baking soda; set aside. |
| 3. | Cream together the butter, sugar, peanut butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla and milk. Add the flour mixture; mix well. |
| 4. | Shape into 40 balls and place each into an ungreased mini muffin pan. |
| 5. | Bake at 375 degrees for about 8 minutes. Remove from oven and immediately press a mini peanut butter cup into each ball. Cool and carefully remove from pan. |
