December 20, 2010
Today was a pretty hard day. Some fun parts, but mostly bad to worse. I took Alex to the Doctor at 2:10 which was good news. Everything is fine and we just have to give him a steroid once a day for a week and then it is just if he needs it. Anyway on my way down to the appointment it was snowing so I decided to turn on my headlights. The moment I did this I thought "You're going to forget to turn those off and sure enough when I left the doctor my battery was dead. I called my Mom and she came right over and gave me a jump. On our way to pick Peter up from work to go to my family Christmas party I ran over some pretty scary potholes and thought that my tire was going to blow. After picking up Peter and driving to the party Melynn told her dad "Grammy came and fixed our car at Dr. Juchau's (Jew-shaw). She's a good fixer.". On our way home right before the center street exit in Provo we hit a pothole and you guessed it...blew our tire and totally killed our rim and probably the tire. We were able to pull off the freeway in time change our tire next to a man that had blown the same tire and rim on his car from the same pothole. And when we called incident management for help they wouldn't come even though we thought we had the wrong size jack and we had two little kids in the car. JERKS!
After that was all said and done and as we were pulling into our driveway we noticed something big on our porch. We both knew what it was immediately. Our ward freakin' Sub for Santa'd us. We looked at each other and our minds began to reel what the heck we had done to make them think that. Anyway we would like it to be known that we are doing just fine...yes even after a day like today. So what we would like to know is if any of you know of anyone who could really use some help. We would like to donate it to someone who is really in need of it. We have enough food for a Christmas dinner and breakfast. Merry Christmas!

And she asked him: "Daddy will you change the light in my princess and the frog flashlight?". He laughed.Posted by Wendi at 5:45 PM 0 comments

During nap times I usually let Melly watch TV in the family room while Alex sleeps and I get things done. Somedays she does really well with staying down there and others not so much. Today she did really well. Come to find out she had fallen asleep. This is our conversation after two full hours of not hearing a peep out of her:
Mom: Hi Melly, What's up?
Melly: Mom, I fell asleep
Mom: Oh yeah, that's good that you took a nap.
Melly: Yeah...Something woke me up....I think it was a squirrel.
Mom: Oh Really? Honey I don't think that there are any squirrels in the house.
Melly: Yeah, it went "tssst" and woke me up.
Mom: Okay?!
This is the first time that I'm sure that she must have been dreaming about squirrels and something that it did must have woke her up. It was so funny and completely threw me when she told me it was a squirrel. Anyway I hope you've enjoyed this story as much as I did.

We have been told that it is a bit of a hassle to comment on the blog for some of you. So we have made it so anyone can comment.

When we bought our house I had mixed feelings about this "appliance garage". It turns out that we didn't use it and we would rather have the extra counter space. We also figured out that because it is next to the sink when we rinse dishes the extra water goes inside. While cleaning it out we figured out that bugs like it inside because it stays damp. So with all the things like bugs, mold, and wasted counter space we decided to take it out.
It looks so much better after it's gone. We gained about 3 square feet of counter space. It's been great. In fact it's weird to think that it was ever there to begin with.

Preface: Melynn and I have a little thing we do. When I put her to bed we both do the sign for I love you with our hands. We then touch our fingers together and make little gun noises, "pew pew". I don't know how the whole thing started, but it's a little thing daddy and Melly do.

For those of you who don't know the nightmares of having linoleum it can be difficult to thoroughly clean. There are grooves and patterns that dirt gets stuck in. I spent two hours yesterday just scrubbing the bathroom floor on my knees with a scrub brush and 409. When I was done it looked amazing. I had pretty much gotten all the dirt out. There are two paint spots from when we painted the house that are stuck there and we haven't removed them because someday we plan to replace the flooring.
A few hours later I'm getting ready for a date with Peter and Melly comes waking into the bathroom and says, "Mommy you cleaned the floors."
I responded, "Yep, I did"
Noticing a small black dot of paint she says, "Mommy, there's a little bit of dirty here."
I responded, "Yep, I couldn't get that spot off."
Melly: "Oh and a little bit of dirty over here."
Me: "Okay Melly, you don't need to critique my cleaning job. But, yes that's paint too. I couldn't get it up either."

Tonight we were in the car and Wendi and I were chatting away not paying attention to the kids when out of nowhere Melly says, "Mommy, my toe is hatching"

This craft looks really cute from afar, but upon closer inspection looks like crap. Trial and error I guess. And NO it cannot be removed, it's all sewn on.

This craft cost about $18 and two hours of my time. I bought the frame at walmart and the butterfly punch on sale at Roberts craft. Anyway it turned out awesome.

Last night we went to Walmart to do some Grocery Shopping and to pick up various other things. We had a feeling that tonight was going to be a bad night and Melly proved to be a trial of our patience. Somewhere between the light bulbs and the milk I had had enough and threatened,"If you don't stop it right now you're going to live in the parking lot.". She looked at me funny, but didn't look real concerned, plus she had calmed down for the time being, so we went about our way to finish the shopping trip. An hour later we were finally buckling the kids into the car. As we drove out of the parking lot Melynn pipes up in her very concerned sweet little voice "I don't want to live in the parking lot," which started me laughing when she continued by saying, "I want to live in Pleasant Grove!" Which only caused me to laugh harder. After gaining control I did explain that I would not make her live in the parking lot.

Number One:
I was getting melynn out of her room from her nap when I notice her bows were gone from her hair and she had been pulling on pigtails, trying to pull them out. I stopped her on the way out of her room and asked, touching a pigtail: "Whats this? Where are your bows?" she responded in a happy tone and a skip in her step: "They're just hangin' out!" and she was off to get some "smarshmellows" from Daddy, leaving me laughing hysterically.

We went to my niece's baptism today and my Step-Sister (Alice) was telling Melynn not to touch the glass around the font and Melynn responded without hesitation and probably without really listening, "I forgot my swimsuit!". I couldn't help but laugh. It couldn't be more of a Melynn response. She did put her hands behind her back and kind of leaned on the glass to look in. After the baptism she ran over to me and said, "I want to get baptized?", my response was "Not for five more years, Honey."
As Peter got up to join the circle for the confirmation Melynn said indignantly, "But daddy, you don't have your swimsuit!"
About 30 seconds into the confirmation she escaped and joined Peter in the circle. He didn't know what to do with her, and couldn't do much without breaking the circle so she sat at his feet reverently for the rest of the confirmation.
She's just so full of personality, it gets frustrating at times, but she's our little sweetheart.

A couple days ago Melynn was supposed to be in her room napping, but she was playing instead. When Mom went in to check on her the following conversation ensued.

Julie, you know you can't resist.
Melynn loves it. She is sitting next to me singing "Shake your bonny". So cute.

Let me explain to you what elevator lake is and you can see the pictures and videos.
Elevator lake is a lake that has grasses and marsh growing over the top of it. When you stand on top it sinks like an elevator dropping and when you get off it raises back up. It's really pretty cool.
Enjoy!
