Let Them Be Little

I've heard this song before, but it never really meant much to me until I had kids of my own. I don't know if it's because it's late or because I'm not ready for the inevitable, probably some of both, but this song made me cry. I love my kids more than words can describe. Like you used to say Mom "more than the whole world". I wish they could be little longer. Melynn is growing up too fast. Peter about got knocked over by the shock that she isn't his baby anymore, but rather his little girl. I have felt that for a while in fact I had a hard time with her turning two because of it. She is exploding verbally, she speaks in full sentences and you can understand them. Alex is the one I'm having a hard time with, he is crawling all over and it is increasingly becoming more difficult to put a diaper on the boy, he constantly has to be moving and he HATES laying on his back. I think that if we let him he would go until he fell asleep laying on his tummy with something in his hands and mouth on the living room floor. I just wish I could freeze time to keep them from growing up so fast. Anyway here are the lyrics to the song. It's called "Let Them be Little" by Billy Dean. It was originally done by Lonestar, but I like this version better. You can hear it by clicking Let Them Be Little or just read the lyrics below.

I can remember when you fit in the palm of my hand.
You felt so good in it; no bigger than a minute.
How it amazes me you're changin' with every blink.
Faster than a flower blooms, they grow up all too soon.

So let them be little,
'Cause they're only that way for a while.
Give 'em hope, give them praise,
Give them love every day.
Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,
Let 'em sleep in the middle,
Oh, but let them be little.

I never felt so much in one little tender touch.
I live for those kisses, your prayers an' your wishes.
An' now you're teachin' me how only a child can see.
Tonight, while we're on our knees, all I ask is:

Please, let them be little,
'Cause they're only that way for a while.
Give them hope, give them praise,
Give them love every day.
Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,
Let 'em sleep in the middle,
Oh, but let them be little.

The so innocent, precious soul:
You turn around, an' it's time to let them go.

So let them be little,
'Cause they're only that way for a while.
Give them hope, give 'em praise,
Give them love every day.
Let 'em cry, let 'em giggle,
Let them sleep in the middle,
Oh, but let them be little.

Let them be little
