I love you!

Peter was putting Melynn to bed tonight and after giving me a kiss, as she walked to her room I told her "I love you, Melly. Good night". Her response was "I love you". That is the first time she has ever said that all on her own. It wasn't forced or anything. It made my heart just melt. Cute kid. I just love her so much.

Drill Sergeant Uncle Matt

In a few weeks Matt will officially become the newest member of the Johansen Family. Matt has taken on the roll of "Uncle Matt" quite nicely. He loves them and the kids ABSOLUTELY love him. All Melly talks about is Katie-Matt.

The following story is one reason we are welcoming him so easily into the family. One of the first times Matt came around he gave us the following tip to help Alex learn to crawl sooner, "You should put popcorn down in a path and he will learn to crawl trying to get from one piece of popcorn to the next". It soon became a recurring joke that someone would always suggest "the popcorn trick".

Lately Matt has found it his duty to teach Alex to walk... although he's been telling all of us for the past five or six months that Alex is ready to walk. Kind of funny right, seeing as how that would make Alex about four months old at the time.

Tonight Matt was working on standing drills with Alex. They've been practicing these for three weeks now. Alex doesn't seem to be progressing as quickly as Matt would like.

We started teasing him about being Drill Sergeant Uncle Matt and he proclaimed that he would start his children on this training program at about two weeks old.

We love you, Matt. Welcome to the family.

Stairs

On Black Friday after all the shopping was over we went to my friend Chrissy's house to play games and let the kids play. She has a little girl that's six weeks older than Melynn so it works out great.

Her house is a tri-level so they only have 6-8 stairs from the kitchen down to the family room. The adults were sitting at the table playing "Ticket to Ride", while all the kids (including Alex) played with the toys in the family room.

One of the kids at the top of the stairs made a noise and caused Peter to turn. He saw that Alex was about to climb the last step into the kitchen.

A funny and interesting fact to this story is that both of my kids learned stairs at Chrissy's house and on those very stairs, only this time we didn't know that Alex was doing it.

Ax's New Trick

The BUFFALO!

On our way home from Salt Lake today after making yet another offer on a house (this one is a HUD home) we saw a buffalo...yeah that's right...a BUFFALO; running down the University Parkway freeway on-ramp going northbound. I thought it was a bull but sure enough it was a buffalo. Several cops were trying to keep cars away by slowing them down.

I hurried and called my Mom who was headed north. She said that by the time she passed it had crossed from the on-ramp to the HOV lane still heading North.

Where did he come from. Why is he there? How did he get there? I guess we'll never know. We don't know what the future held for Mr. Buffalo, but we hope that it was good.

Of all the weird things that you would ever think of coming across on the freeway it happened to be a BUFFALO!

We still can't stop laughing.

It has arrived...FINALLY!!!

Ax's first tooth has after many, many months of waiting has finally made it's debut. It's a top tooth strange enough. It broke through within the past few days. We are so excited it finally happened after 9 months 1 week and 3 days. Way to go, Grubbies! We love you!

Mellyisms

"1...2...3...4...X...6...7...8...9...9...10...THREE!!"
Melly counting before throwing the ball across the room. Keep in mind she is only Two. Pretty good I'd say.

Grubbies

Alex is 9 months old now and I thought that many of you would like to see updated pictures of my ever growing munchkin. We are certain he is going through a growth spurt, because for dinner last night he ate half a banana and 4 oz of jarred food and what ever corn Melynn had left from her dinner. A couple of nights ago he drank 21 oz of milk during the night. And yet somehow I know that this growth spurt doesn't include growing any teeth yet. It's been 9 months and he still doesn't have a single tooth and there are no signs of that happening anytime soon.

Last night Alex woke up at about 1:00 AM wanting yet another bottle and to keep him from waking Melynn I took him to Peter to hold for a few minutes while I fixed his bottle. He was completely lost. Peter was doing strange things to him like putting the blinds string end in his mouth. Alex would just look at him weird and spit it right out. Even though he was still mostly asleep I managed to get some pictures of him smiling. DON'T WORRY EVERYONE the blind strings are well managed so the kids can't get to them and they are also to high. This was a one time thing.

Enjoy the pics.
