Big Trouble

I have been working with Melynn for months to not tear out the pages in books. In fact most of her books have been put away, because she is doing so horribly at listening and learning. Well when we go to church we keep our scriptures in the diaper bag. Well I forgot to take them out when we got home and today she got into her diaper bag which is also usually put up. And she ripped about 3 pages. I was so mad that she went straight to bed. I guess the only good thing about this whole mess is she tore it at the seam and not through the middle of the page. Oh, I was so mad. I think more at myself than at Melynn. I have decided that it is time for discipline. I think she is old enough to learn right and wrong.

I wonder if you could glue the pages back in at the seam? Peter, I think, ruined a book or two in his baby/toddler days as well. It's a small price to have babies exposed to books (just not your books). She'll learn.

She will learn, just keep reading with her and teaching her to be soft. All kids do it. She is a little young for discipline, mostly you can just distract her. She might not get the cause and effect of discipline yet, but who knows, she has done everything else fast :)

Hmmmm...she is just 10 months old. I remember someone who was more like 2 when she participated in a powdered sugar/milk dance party. That person got a bath!! A little dicipline might include a little slap on the hand and a 'no' IF caught in the act. I think she is to young for time out or anything like that...but Margie might have a different opinion on that. Maybe call her and ask her at what age she started that. I know Timmy did pretty good with it.

I think positive re-enforcement along with gentle discipline is the key. Time-outs that are a minute for each year. She is almost one, so one minute of time out. Unless, of course, she is in time out because mom actually needs the time to cool down! Your an awesome mom!
