We went camping over the weekend to San Rafael Swell. It was the first time for Melly and Alex. Both kids did exceptionally well, we were really surprised. Melly was a daddy's girl all weekend. On walks if I got too far away she would get worried and start to fuss. Its not she was attached to my hip, she just wanted to keep tabs on me all the time.
Friday night I put her down to go to bed in the tent by herself in her new sleeping bag. She cried for about ten minutes before I decided to go lay down with her. As soon as I laid down beside her she calmed right down. Every few minutes she would reach her little hand over and touch my face to make sure that I was still there. After four or five reassurances she reached over and grabbed behind my neck and tried to pull me over to her. I moved my head in close and she gave me one of her big open mouthed kisses. She always kisses with her mouth open, but she has never volunteered a kiss. We always have to prod her to kiss her brother or give us a kiss. This was the first time she gave a kiss on her own. It was just so sweet.
The next morning I woke up shortly after daylight to see her crawling out of her sleeping bag. She quickly got cold and started crying so I invited her in my sleeping bag with me. She immediately curled up and rested her head on my arm and was fast asleep. As many of you know Melly is not a snuggler. She never sits still for more than ten seconds. It was quite the treat to snuggle with her for the next hour or so until breakfast.
Later that day we went on a little hike. We came across a sandy wash about 7 feet wide and 7 feet deep. Of course all us guys had to show off how tough we are by jumping across it. On my second jump I landed on the far side but I didn't want to get into the bushes or the cactus so I tried to stop myself to quickly and fell back into the wash. It was very sandy and I wasn't at all concerned about hurting myself but Melly was very worried. As soon as I disappeared from sight she started crying and wouldn't stop until I climbed out and showed her that I was okay.
We'll put up some pics before too long, but I'm not at home right now so Wendi will have to do it or it'll have to wait until tonight.
